Doug + Jenya | Amangiri Resort Helicopter Proposal
Amangiri Resort + Tower Butte, Utah & Arizona
I love photographing proposals- they make me nervous, I feel the anticipation for weeks leading up to them, and then the joy that erupts so suddenly after one person asks the other to be their forever partner, it’s just bliss! I always want to be in a position where natural emotion is occurring, it allows me to observe and create from a really fly-on-the-wall perspective.
Doug reached out to me with a two part proposal idea.
Have me pose as a guest at Amangiri and go on a helicopter ride with them to Tower Butte where he would propose
Accompany them on Sunrise Trail for a little hike, where Jenya’s parents would be waiting with champagne. She would have no idea they were even in this part of the country!
I was immediately thrilled, I knew there would be so much beautiful emotion to document during both parts of the day.
The day was indescribable. To see this landscape I love so much from the air, to be able to look down and think “Oh, that’s where Roland and I camped for a week above Lake Powell,” and “Wow, that’s the desolate stretch of highway I drove through a few weeks ago.” To share this sacred space with Doug + Jenya during such a joyous time was an honor. She was of course floored to see her parents when we returned, and then the three of us enjoyed the last bits of desert light wandering through the iconic white cliffs on the Amangiri property. It was surreal, but above all, I could feel the overwhelming sincerity of how Doug felt for Jenya.
Thank you for inviting me along to document this once in a lifetime day Doug. Thrilled to have been there while you proposed to your beautiful lady.
